Cognate with Dutch zoor (“dry, rough”), Low German soor (“dry”), German sohr (“parched, dried up”), dialectal Norwegian søyr (“the desiccation and death of a tree”), Lithuanian sa?sas (“dry”), Homeric Ancient Greek ???? (aûos, “dry”).
